So I been living in Durban North for 8 months now and honestly never ever thought I would love it as much as I do… I’m in love with Durban.
This is coming from someone who dislikes humidity immensely, who every visit to Durban on holiday would complain endlessly about how I would never live in such a sticky and hot city.
It’s an absolute no no to showering and being drenched in sweat after you climb out the shower you just want to shower again… But then you just feel like the melting ice caps so there really isn’t a point.
Hair is frizzy, make up just runs down your face, and nothing you wear is cool enough for this weather…
Air cons… Air-conditioning everywhere. Cars, home, office, shopping centers, restaurants… Everywhere you go there are aircons and thank goodness for that. However, having that coldness blow on you 24/7 just causes other irritants like colds and flu, bone and muscle ache and sinus… Never have I lived in a place where everyone sounds nazily and blocked up.
Yet despite these horrid complaining and reasons not to live here.. I’m extremely happy.
Better then Cape Town… Definitely!
Better then Joburg… Well the city yes but I do miss my folks and all my fur babies…
The rules are:
1. Always finish a warm/hot shower with a cold shower, to avoid that feeling of not drying your body after shower.
2. Towels and damp clothes need to be air dried outside to avoid that ‘miff’ smelling material that ends up mouldy.
3. Leave cupboard doors open to allow air to circulate through your clothes to avoid that damp ‘ miff’ smell from the air.
4. Ensure you have a swimming pool. I live 2km from the ocean and not a damn will I swim in it. It’s dirty and sometimes smelly, but in total honesty nothing better then sitting on the beach, taking in the waves and sea breeze after a busy day at work.
5. There is a saying… What comes after 2 days of rain in Durban? Monday! Lol it’s true but I can be sitting at my desk, aircon on, beautiful blue skies outside but let it reach weekend and it rains. Inside is hot, outside is wet lol
…. on a side note I had a completely different wind and rain statement which was wrong…. Lol proof in new to Durbs. Lol
6. Food has to be kept in the fridge especially veges and fruit. Have you seen what happens to potato when they left in a humid environment even in those brown bags… Let’s just say it’s a nasty experience of exploding potatoes and it’s totally disgusting.
To be continued.. Lots more tips to make your stay as beautiful as what I’m living..
I’m just saying…
